Story
Trekking for Zach (Achyman)
In 2016 at just 12 years of age the family were given the heartbreaking news that Zach had a grade 4 astrocytoma wrapped around his spinal cord (an incurable brain cancer with an 18 month life expectancy). Zach had surgery where they placed 2 rods, 2 anchor bars and 12 screws in his spine then a round of radiation at Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Zach being the incredible person he was continued on with life and adopted the mantra PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). He found his true passion in music after footy and touch footy were no longer an option for him and became an inspiring DJ.
5 weeks after Zach’s 18th birthday an MRI delivered the heartbreaking news that his tumour had returned. After another surgery and more radiation followed by a tough rehab Zach was doing ok. Although a few months later Zach became very sick and it was discovered that his tumour had travelled to the base of his brain stem. Another stint of radiation was a band aid measure and our beautiful boy lost his battle in October 2022.
I'm gearing up and making a difference by fundraising for a cause that's close to my heart. The Mark Hughes Foundation funds vital research and support to brain cancer patients and I am going to walk 150kms in three days from Sydney to Newcastle to help raise funds for this cause!
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to MHF. Thank you for supporting me, your donation is appreciated.
Wish me luck!
